Previous campers have reached high positions in school orgs and councils.

Lauan University Center and the Foundation for East Asian Development, Inc. will again troop to Dagatan Family Farm School in Lipa, Batangas, for this year’s Farmcamp! Target date is May 25 to June 3, 1010.

Running for more than a decade now, the Farmcamps have helped family farm schools repair existing farm lots and school buildings. The student volunteers also teach 3rd year farm school students review classes in Math, Physics, Chemistry and English, to help them get inside reputable universities, such as UP Los Banos.

The Farmcamp remains as the only leadership-social service project in the country! The students are given leadership training and social concern and they apply it in the Farmcamp, benefiting them as well as the children of farmers.

This year’s camp continues what we left off last year, repairs of roofs, ceilings, and teaching of kids.

The new sheets we installed last year and the rusted ones to be replaced.

So how can you help?

We have ‘democratized’ the donation process. By joining the Farmcamp Development Board (see page link at the right), you can donate whatever amount you can on a regular basis (say, monthly) to the Development Fund, thus ensuring its sustainability. You can also invite your family and friends and together, pool your donations to contribute to the Fund.  Donations are tax-deductible.

If you are a student volunteer, joining fee is P1,500, inclusive of your board and lodging there in Dagatan Family Farm School, for one week.

The farm school is the first of its kind the country and in Asia, where students stay for a week in school and two weeks on their farm, applying the techniques they learned. At present the school is home to about 50 students, mostly children of farmers living in the surrounding barangays. In addition to the regular high school subjects, curriculum includes classes in agricultural technology, agricultural mechanics, cooperative ventures, farm accounting, farm marketing and management, computer technology and typing.

The farm school sits on a 1.5 hectare property donated by the Ayala Corporation. The school is small but equipped with a laboratory,  library, classrooms, dormitory, workshop, living room, a chapel, and a basketball court and volleyball court.

The Work to be done

After more than 20 years, the school is beset with repairs big and small. This year, the work will focus on carpentry, roof replacement, and painting of the dormitory for the students.

How you can help.

The farm school relies primarily on private donations to pay its teachers and administrative personnel. In 2002 it launched initiatives to harness biogas to pay for its electricity, and agri-ventures with selected families. Unfortunately, funds are always scarce and slow to come, so the budget for repairs is always very little. You can help by:

1) Raising and donating money for the Camp.

2) Donating construction materials, like GI sheets (for the roof), plywood, nails, hammers, saws, etc.

3) Paint for the roof, ceiling, beds and chairs

4) Lightbulbs for the dormitory and study room

5) instructional materials like ballpens, notebooks, pentel pens and whiteboard markers
